Wind, Solar and Hydro Power: Our Renewable Energy Activities in France at a Glance

11/29/2024

With over 660 wind farms, solar farms and hydropower plants, and battery-based energy storage capacities throughout France, TotalEnergies is one of the country's top 3 renewable energy companies. The low-carbon electricity produced by these sites enables the Company to cover the equivalent energy needs of two million people, while avoiding 800,000 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere every year. A glance at our renewable energy activities in mainland France and overseas.

In France, we develop, build and operate integrated renewable electricity generation projects across the country. Whether wind, solar or hydro power, we are capable of offering the most appropriate renewable electricity production solution in line with the local context. In addition to these three energy sources, we also provide battery-based energy storage solutions, which can be used to overcome the intermittent electricity produced with renewable energies and continuously supply electricity to the grid.

O3C, our renewables control tower in France

We have an operation control & command center (O3C) to monitor all our renewable energy production in France. O3C is designed to track the state of our assets in real time, so that the necessary corrective measures can be taken in the event of an incident.

Renewable electricity to drive the energy transition for our Company and our customers!

Our renewable energy production is helping decarbonize the national energy mix and enabling our customers to move forward with their energy transition strategies, while improving the energy efficiency of our business activities. We are achieving that by:

TotalEnergies and agrivoltaics

Did you know? TotalEnergies is also developing agrivoltaics. This innovative approach combines agricultural production with solar power generation on the same land. As such, agrivoltaics helps maintain the resources needed to ensure food security while promoting the transition to low-carbon energy sources. Ombrea, our International Agri-Energy Centre of Expertise, was created in 2023 to develop digital solutions to ensure perfect synergy between crop development and energy production:

  • Tools for modeling the climate and the needs of plants and animals;
  • Collection of climate information using sensors to feed the solar module control algorithm;
  • Mobile tracking app for use by farmers.
