Safety training for intervention on wind turbines

OLEUM has two training centers for technical energy professions: one here in Dunkirk,and the other in La Mède, near Marseille. Here, we train Company employees who need to develop their skills in maintenance, operation and safety, as well as outside customers interested in our modules, our specific focus and the quality of our training facilities. The Oleum center in Dunkirk offers certifying courses in exceptional conditions thanks to our training wind turbine and all the educational tools and resources at the center for Working at Height, Rescue training, Safety Harness training and Sea Survival training, very important for offshore wind.

The full Basic Safety Training course includes five theoretical and practical modules to explain safety rules to everyone working in offshore wind. Two cross-disciplinary modules develop the skills needed to provide first aid and adopt movements and positions to prevent injuries and to lift heavy equipment safely. A specific module covers Working at Height, with practical exercises on the training turbine. It teaches how to check PPE such as harnesses, helmets and ropes, and how to ensure one's own safety and that of colleagues in potentially hazardous situations at heights.

Here, we need to rescue someone who is stuck on the turbine ladder. Another worker has to go up and get him.

Voice-over:

Sea Survival is taught in the OLEUM center's training pool. Participants perform several exercises in near real-life conditions: solidarity at sea, righting and embarking a lifeboat, and helicopter rescue. Goal: learn the right responses to stay safe, alone or with others, if conditions at sea require.

Great course! Really a unique experience that gives us a feel for the environment and how it would be in situations like that.

Voice-over:

The last module is dedicated to firefighting. Participants learn how to intervene safely if a fire breaks out depending on the origin (chemicals, hydrocarbons or solid fuels) and to use the available resources, such as extinguishers or fire blankets, to keep the fire from spreading. This training reflects the Company's values and transformation. First of all, it embodies Safety, a value at the core of all our training programs at Oleum, and the support given to our teams to discover new areas and professions related to new energies. Next steps: pursue with batteries in Dunkirk and hydrogen in La Mède by capitalizing on the Company's new projects in these areas here at the Flanders complex and at La Mède.
