Argentina: The Fenix Gas Project at a Glance

10/15/2024

Launched in September 2024, Fenix is an offshore gas facility off the coast of Tierra del Fuego with a role to play in supplying natural gas to Argentina. This low-emission project is perfectly in line with our oil and gas strategy.

This infographic presents the Fenix offshore gas project, located 60 km off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in Southern Argentina, near four other offshore gas fields in production, namely Hidra, Aries, Carina and Vega Pléyade.

Gas produced by the Fenix gas field is sent through a subsea pipeline connected to the Vega Pléyade offshore platform. It is subsequently treated onshore by Río Cullen, an oil and gas processing plant, and Cañadon Alfa, a gas processing plant also operated by TotalEnergies.

This infographic highlights the project’s key figures:

  • The Fenix facility is located in 70 meters of water depth.
  • The Fenix gas field comprises three horizontal wells.
  • Fenix is connected to the Vega Pléyade platform by a 36.5-km pipeline.
  • The maximum production capacity at Fenix is 10 million cubic meters per day of natural gas, i.e. 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
  • The project has a carbon intensity of 9 kg of CO2 equivalent per barrel of oil equivalent.
  • Over 700 million dollars have been invested in this project.
