Petroleum Products: Adapting to Demand

The European Union's ambition is to be the first carbon-neutral continent, encouraging the development of low-carbon vehicles. These major changes have led TotalEnergies to pursue its strategy of reducing its sales of petroleum products by 40% by 2030, so that it neither sells nor refines more fuel than it produces oil.

This strategy is leading the Company to take an offensive stance in new forms of mobility: converting refineries into biorefineries, speeding up the roll-out of electric charging stations in major European cities, and setting up a European network of hydrogen stations for heavy goods vehicles with Air Liquide.

In Europe, TotalEnergies is continuing to transform its service station network into multi-energy sites. The Company is also more selective in its sales of petroleum products.

In France, TotalEnergies is continuing to roll out high-power charging points on motorways, in response to the expectations of public authorities and motorists.

Develop non-energy uses of oil that emit less greenhouse gas

As well as being used as fuel to produce energy, petroleum products are also used for their technical properties as materials or components. This share of non-energy uses (petrochemicals, lubricants), which generates fewer greenhouse gases, is set to increase in oil consumption as mobility moves towards low-carbon solutions, particularly electricity.

This is why TotalEnergies is pursuing its growth strategy in petrochemicals by targeting integrated platforms and benefiting from access to raw materials under privileged conditions.
